Ceramics, Sculpture, Jewelry Design
And Studio Ceramics, Sculpture, Jewelry Design This course will introduce students to creating art of a 3-dimensional nature. The first half of theterm will cover bo th hand and wheel techniques of creating pottery and sculpture from design to final state. The second half will explore additional forms of 3-dimensional art such as relief and jewelry making. The student will be introduced to other sculptural medium besides clay such as paper, wood, and metal. This course stresses original creative effort and technical manipulation resulting in pleasing functional and decorative 3-dimensional pieces.
Art 1 The Art 1 course is designed to meet the needs of all high school students as an entry-level experience in the visual arts. Emphasis is placed on the fundamentals of design, color theory, and careful observation through the use of two-dimensional media such as drawing, painting, and printmaking. Students will critically examine prevalent artists and artistic periods throughout the centuries as well as contemporary visual stimuli. Additionally, students will learn how to talk about works of art and explore career options in the visual arts. The course will challenge students’ thinking and creativity by allowing them to express themselves and explore personal aesthetic and conceptual concerns.
Art 2 The Art 2 course is designed to provide extended periods of time exploring self-expression in drawing, painting, and sculpture projects. Students will build upon their knowledge of the fundamentals of design, perspective, and color theory while developing an individual approachto art techniques, materials, and visual expression. Students will continue to critically examine prevalent artists and artistic periods throughout the centuries as well as contemporary visual stimuli. Students will also continue to learn how to talk about and evaluate works of art,including their own. The course will challenge students’ thinking and creativity by allowing them to express themselves, while also beginning to explore personal aesthetic and conceptual concerns.
Art 3 This course is designed for art students who wish to continue their exploration of art in more breadth and depth. In Art 3, it is hoped that the more serious student will begin to develop an individual approach to art techniques, materials, and visual expression. Some art history and art criticism will be used in conjunction with projects. An option to develop an AP portfolio in drawing or 2D design is available, but not mandatory.
Art 4 (AP Option) Art 4 is designed for art students who wish to continue their exploration of art in more breadth and depth. It is designed to maximize the students' potential in advanced drawing, painting, and 2D design. College and/or career preparation will be explored. An AP portfolio may also be prepared as part of this course in drawing or two-dimensional design.
Studio Art (AP Option) Studio Art is designed for students who have successfully completed any one of the listed courses. There is an emphasis on portfolio preparation and advanced skill levels in the students' designated media. Students may be placed in existing courses related to the area they select.
Art History (H) (AP) Advanced Placement Art History is designed for the non-artist. It is a chronologically organized course covering prehistoric art through contemporary art. Emphasis is placed on recurring themes in art as seen in historical context. Attention is given to writing strategies that would enable the student to successfully complete the AP Art History test. Field trips enable studentsto expand on those concepts learned in class.
Computer Graphics 1 Computer graphics will involve the student in manipulation of color images on the computer. The scanner and the digitizing camera will also be used. Various paint programs will allow the student to explore the range of electronic art to produce color- printed images and multimedia presentations. Simple animation and video editing are also introduced.
Computer Graphics 2And Studio Computer Graphics Computer Graphics 2 is an advanced graphics class with a continuation of business and artistic applications. Emphasis is placed on the student’s development of a portfolio and job skills used in the graphic design industry.
PhotographyAnd Studio Photography The Photography 1 course is designed to be a basic introduction to both the artistic and technical sides of photography through black and white camera work and laboratory procedures. Students will gain an understanding of how an adjustable camera functions in order to properly expose negatives and from these negatives develop high quality prints in the darkroom. Students will also learn to successfully compose photographs making use of the fundamentals of design, lighting techniques, and darkroom manipulation techniques, leading to the understanding of photography as a fine arts media. The course will challenge students’ thinking and creativity by allowing them to express themselves and explore personal aesthetic and conceptual concerns. This class requires good organizational skills because multiple activities are done concurrently, as well as written critiques. Students will also be incorporating digital photography into the class and learning about Photoshop.
